Oricon reported today that Violet Evergarden: the Movie had surpassed 2 billion yen at the Japanese box, making the film the second Kyoto Animation-produced anime movie to do so after A Silent Voice.


The film, after being in the top 10 for 11 weeks finally dropped off the rankings in its 12th weekend. The film will add more theatres starting on December 11 or later.


The film opened in Japan on September 18 and it ranked at #2 in its opening weekend.


Violet Evergarden: the Movie has grossed 2,014,286,250 yen (US$19,315,670) at the Japanese box office in 79 days, with 1,397,440 tickets sold for the Kyoto Animation movie. This makes Violet Evergarden the eighth highest-grossing animated film worldwide of 2020, above Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel III. spring song and below Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna.


Kyoto Animation postponed the film's opening in Japan due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was slated to open in Japan on April 24, 2020. This was the second delay for the film, as it was originally slated for a January 10, 2020 opening in Japan.
