The live-action adaptation film Tokyo Ghoul of Masataka Kubota’s manga of the same name released in Japan on 29th of July. The film opened in the Japanese box office at #5 during the weekend. They will also planning to have 4DX screenings in Japan. Production house Funimation has bought the licenses to release the film in North America in Japanese language with English subtitles.
Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series created by Sui Ishida. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump between September 2011 and September 2014 and has been collected in fourteen tankōbon volumes as of August 2014. A sequel titled Tokyo Ghoul:re began serialisation in the same magazine in October 2014 and a prequel titled Tokyo Ghoul Jack ran online on Jump Live.
Another live-action film Gintama based on Hideaki Sorachi’s manga of the same name was released earlier this month; it has lost its #2 position and has come down to #4 in the Japanese box office this weekend. The film has earned the highest weekend opening, than any other live-action film in Japan this year. Gintama is expected to surpass 5 billion yen earnings from the box-office.
