The Irregular at Magic High School Anime's 2nd Season to Release on October 3


Kadokawa's October issue of Monthly Comic Alive magazine revealed on Thursday that the second season of The Irregular at Magic High School will release in Japan on October 3, 2020.


The anime was originally scheduled to air in July 2020, but it was delayed to October 3 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The second season will adapt the the "Visitor's Arc" from the novel series by Tsutomu Satou. The main staffs and cast from the 2017 film are reprising their roles in the second season. Risako Yoshida is directing the anime at Eight Bit.


Satou's light novel series, The Irregular at Magic High School first launched in 2008. The series will end on September 10 2020, with the release of the 32nd Volume, and is subtitled "Sacrifice-hen/Sotsugyō-hen" (Sacrifice/Graduation Arc). The novel will receive two sequels. The first sequel titled, "The Irregular at Magic High School: Magian Company" will debut in the fall of 2020. The second sequel titled, "The Irregular at Magic High School: Maidens of Cygnus" will debut in winter of 2021.

The novel series has inspired multiple manga from different authors, based on different arcs of the novels. The overall book and manga franchise has 15 million copies in print, and the original novels have 10 million copies in print.


A 26-episode TV anime adaptation of the novel series first aired on April 6 2014, to September 27, 2014. It was directed by Manabu Ono at Madhouse. The novels also inspired one anime film, The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars which opened in Japan on June 17, 2017.
