The Code Geass franchise returned with the announcement of a brand new TV anime series, Code Geass: Z of the Recapture. The live-streamed unveiling event on YouTube for the new Code Geass projects announced the new anime series alongside the reveal of a new smartphone game titled, Code Geass: Genisis Re: CODE on Saturday (December 5 or Lelouch's birthday).
Directing Code Geass: Z of the Recapture at Sunrise will be Yoshimitsu Ohashi (AMNESIA) with Takahiro Kimura returning to design the characters from the original series and films which were created by CLAMP. Noboru Kimura (Amagami SS+) is penning the scripts.
The new anime series will continue on from the latest anime film that was released, i.e. Lelouch of the Resurrection.
The Code Geass: Genesis Re: CODE smartphone game is scheduled to be released in spring 2021 and is said to be a "culmination of Code Geass, collection all current and future Code Geass works." The game will allow players to experience various stories from throughout the franchise. Its gameplay has both role-playing game and simulation elements. It features brand-new, original story scenarios from leading writers and Sunrise, as well as numerous original exclusive illustrations. The staff bills the game as "the official sequel to the Code Geass franchise."
The game is slated to launch in spring of 2021.
The original Code Geass TV anime series aired from October 6, 2006, to July 29, 2007, with 25 episodes. A second season aired from April 6 to September 28, 2008, with 25 episodes.
The series has spawned various anime films, original video anime, light novels and games.
