Several Japanese publishers have come together to discuss legal procedures against a site called FreeBooks. The site has allegedly allowed users to freely upload and share manga, magazines and books without their original copyright owners' permission.
The publishers were made aware of the site at the end of last year. The website was purorted to be a file-sharing site where users could upload their original works. Popular publisher Shogakuukan alleges that at least their 600 titles have been uploaded to the site. Another renowned publisher Kodansha claims that the site has several hundred of its titles. FreeBooks website has been closed since 3rd May 2017.
