Japanese Film Festival (JFF) Is Back In India! Its Gone Digital This Year!


The official Facebook page of Japan Foundation for the Japanese Film Festival (JFF), New Delhi announced on Wednesday that they had decided to launch the film screening on the streaming platform, Vimeo due to the ongoing pandemic restrictions.


They announced that "Three acclaimed contemporary Japanese films will be streamed from September to November on VIMEO." The film screening is free for everyone. One film will stream for one weekend each month and will be available for free. They have yet to announce the titles and streaming dates of the films.


The Japan Foundation has hosted the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) annually in major cities across India. The Foundation hosted the JFF 2019 event in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Gurugram, Chennai, and Guwahati. The JFF screened films such as Children of the Sea, Garden of Words, Your name, Weathering With You, Lu over the wall, and the live-action adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul in 2019.

The Japan Foundation was established in 1972 by special legislation in the Japanese Diet and became an Independent Administrative Institution in October 2003. The mission of the Japan Foundation is to promote international cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and other countries. The Japan Foundation, New Delhi is the only office located in South Asia and was established in 1994. The foundation focuses on three aspects - Arts and Culture, Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange and Japanese-Language Education Overseas.
