Crunchyroll touched 2 Million Subscribers


Crunchyroll the American online video streaming site for anime, manga, drama, music, electronic entertainment, and content now has more than two million subscribers. Ellation sister concern of Crunchyroll updated the news to ANN on Thursday. The streaming company previously notified that it had reached more than one million subscribers in February 2017.


With television broadcast of Mob Psycho100 starting this weekend. Crunchyroll begins its collaboration with Adult Swim's Toonami block.


Back in 2007, Crunchyroll streamed unauthorized anime. But since 2008, it started streaming licensed titles with the help of US$4.05million as first-round funding from Venrock.


In 2013, Crunchyroll began a manga service and in 2015 Crunchyroll announced a joint venture to co-produce anime with Sumitomo Corporation. In August 2017, Crunchyroll, Sumitomo Corporation, and GREE entered into an agreement for the distribution right of games based on anime for North America and other overseas markets.


In 2016, Crunchyroll partnered with Funimation to cross-stream anime content and release titles for home video. This partnership end next month on 9th November replaced with HIDIVE streaming service.


The Chernin Group was a major stakeholder in Crunchyroll in December 2013. In 2014, the Chernin Group and AT&T formed the joint venture Otter Media, who then invested another US$22 million in Ellation in November 2015. Later Otter Media was owned by AT&T.


Crunchyroll made quite a journey to reach where it has reached today!
