Attack on Titan manga creator Hajime Isayama reported on Sunday that the manga series is 1 to 2% away from completion. Isayama spoke at the unveiling of the statues of the manga's main characters at his hometown Ōyamamachi's Ōyama Dam.
At the ceremony, Isayama joked to his editor, saying that "there's a lot of full, shogi-like meetings going on" about the ending of Attack on Titan, with them piecing out the finale perfectly.
Isayama had previously mentioned in June that we were "about 5%" away from the end.
Isayama launched the manga in the first-ever issue of Kodansha's monthly publication Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine and was released on September 9, 2009. The most recent, volume 32, was released on September 9, 2020. However, with only 5% of the manga left, the manga series is expected to end in the upcoming year, closing off the original storyline of the series by finally bringing the plot to its 11 year-conclusion.
The manga has also inspired many spinoff manga and novels, several spinoff anime, video games, and a live-action adaptation. The manga has more than 100 million copies in print worldwide.
The first season of the TV anime aired between April 7, 2013, and September 29, 2013, with 25-episodes. The second season aired from April 1 to June 17, 2017, with 12-episodes. The third season aired between July 23, 2018, and July 1, 2019, with 22-episodes. The fourth and final season is scheduled to air on December 7, 2020.
