Akira 4K Remaster to hit US theatres in 24th September !!

The dates shuffling around for the scheduled release of Akira 4K Remaster release in theatres in various countries. Now after a long due, AMC theatres and Regal Cinemas have listed 24th of the September as the official release date for the 4K Remaster Akira release. Albeit, Regal cinemas will be screening it as a Funimation screening with only English subtitles available.


4K Remaster originally opened at 9th spot in Japan on April 3rd in about 35 IMAX theatres. Due to the cancellation of Tokyo Anime Award Festival by its organisers, where the film was originally scheduled to be premiered on March 14, it got a delayed-release in Japan and much-delayed release in the USA.

Manga creator and anime director Katsuhiro Otomo announced at Anime Expo panel in July 2019 that a new anime project of his Akira manga is in the works. Warner Bros. also announced a live-action adaptation of Akira back in 2008, but it has since been rescheduling every time it is supposed to begin its shoot and in July 2019, Entertainment news website Variety reported that the movie is once again held up indefinitely by the production house which was scheduled for its release in May 2021 according to the last given statements.
